Meeting Notes 9/2

Our interest meeting yesterday was a huge success! If you weren’t able to make it, here’s a quick summary of what happened.

We introduced this year’s officers – see the “Meet Your Officers” page if you would like to know more about what everyone does. After getting to know each other a little bit, we discussed some of the stigmas and stereotypes about mental health that we’ve noticed around us. We also talked a lot about the upcoming events for this semester, including Drug Day, the bake sale, and Puppy Play Day. Event suggestions are always welcome so don’t hesitate to send one of the officers and email or talk to us in person after the meeting.

Don’t forget that the Webmaster position is currently open. Please email and to get more information and an application!

Our next meeting is on Tuesday September 16th at 5:30 pm. We’ll be meeting in the same room as last time, BSB C123. We hope to see you then!

3/19 Meeting and President/VP Elections

If you missed today’s meeting, you should know that we now have a new President and Vice President. Julian Aliche is going to be our President next year and Sarah Krennerich is our new VP!

The other officer positions are open to applications until Friday, so send them in if you’re interested! If you need the application, please email me at and I will send it to you.

Our next meeting is on April 2nd (5:30 pm, BSB 231) and we will be going through an OCD obstacle course that Sarah designed. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and we hope to see you all there! We will also be introducing the rest of our officers for the 2014-2015 school year.

If you have any feedback about the meeting or suggestions about things you would like to see us do, you can comment in the suggestion box below!

9/04 Interest Meeting – Recap

Interest Meeting – 46 minutes –

– Started sign-in sheet. All who signed the sheet have been added to the Active Minds roster through Student Activities and our emailing list. If you would like to be added email:

– Officer introductions. If you would like to know more about us, check out our Meet Your Officers page.

– Shared Active Minds’ mission and what Baylor University is doing to Change the Conversation. Email us if you have any questions/suggestions about possible events. We cannot advertise events until they have been approved by student activities.

– Suggestion boxes. After every meeting (at 6:00pm) a suggestion box blog post will be available to leave comments, advice, suggestions, and any feedback about the meeting. The comments are anonymous, so we won’t be able to track who says what. Feel free to be honest, because we want our AM chapter at Baylor to meet your needs, while also keeping Active Minds’ mission in mind. After 7 days, comments close on all blog posts so please make sure to leave comments within 7 days. Suggestion box posts are password protected because we are not requiring any visitors to enter a name or email address and we want to make sure only Active Minds members are leaving comments on those posts. The password will be provided at meetings.

– Active Minds donation jar. We are not allowed to collect dues, because of Active Minds’ National rules and regulations. This is great because it allows for any student to join without dealing with the financial burden that most organizations place on student members. However, that also means that most of our money comes from fundraising efforts. We will have a donations jar at all meetings and if you would like to leave your spare change or donate to help Active Minds at Baylor University we would appreciate it!

– Please email t-shirt designs to We would like to create a new t-shirt because our Active Minds chapter is four years old and we have not had a new t-shirt since its initiation. On September 18th, at our second meeting, we plan to pick a design so get those designs in! 🙂

– Played some icebreaker games to get to know each other.

– Reminders:
Our next meeting is September 18th @ 5:00 pm in BSB C123. All of our meetings for the rest of the semester will be in the same room. We are looking forward to seeing all of you, but if you for some reason have a conflict with our meeting schedule, let us know that you’d like to keep receiving emails about events and stay involved!

10th Anniversary of Active Minds!

Please visit Our Team Fundraising Page! Our team is working to support Active Minds reach its goal of raising $1,000,000 to honor 10 years of changing the conversation about mental health.

Active Minds’ mission is to empower students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help-seeking. We are changing the culture on campuses and in the community by providing information, leadership opportunities and advocacy training to the next generation.

We would really appreciate it if you could join our team and ask others to donate on your behalf or make a one time donation to support our team in celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Active Minds!

Small donations go a long way.

Welcome to our new blog!

Active Minds is a student organization at Baylor University (and many other universities in the nation) in which students educate other students about mental health disorders by hosting different activities on campus (ex. puppy play day for depression month), as well as inviting speakers (clinicians, professors, etc.) to one of the two meetings we have each month. We hope that by changing the conversation about mental health, the stigma surrounding these issues will decrease and will encourage students that need help to seek it.

Each month we have a different focus:
September — Anxiety
October — Addiction
November — Depression
December — Stress
January — Suicide & Body Image
February — Sexual Assault & Eating Disorders
March — Autism
April — Schizophrenia

Our meetings take place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6pm
(location varies, but usually at the SLC).

We hope to see you at our meetings and thank you for stopping by!
